The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends limiting the intake of free sugars by adults and children to less than 10% of their total energy intake, ideally 5%.
Given their free-sugar content, sweetened beverages are hardly compatible with this recommendation. Beverages with sweeteners, even if they do not contain free sugars, are not part of healthy hydration habits.
