The World Health Organization defines physical activity as “any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that require energy expenditure”1. Physical activity can thus be practised daily and on different occasions, for example2:
Whatever form it takes, physical activity protects against various chronic diseases, improves quality of life and well-being, promotes sound mental health and reinforces social cohesion and integration. A sedentary lifestyle therefore represents one of the main risk factors for death. It is therefore important to build living environments that support and encourage the adoption of a physically active lifestyle.
