Buying local products is certainly a positive initiative, but not all foods produced or processed in Quebec should be promoted.

In fact, Collectif Vital has found that Quebec provenance serves as a means to promote many foods of low nutritional quality:

  • One in two food products benefiting from this type of promotion is ultra-processed;
  • Four out of ten food products promoted as being produced in Quebec contain high amounts of sugar, salt or saturated fat.
